QR is the abbreviation for Quick Response, as the code is intended to be decoded very fast. This black and white two dimensional flat barcode stores information in a square pattern. QR codes storing addresses and URLs may appear in magazines, on signs, buses, business cards, or on just about any object about which users might need information. Did you know that QR codes have been used in Japan for over 15 years now!
QR Codes are aimed at camera phone equipped mobile phone users and are readable by downloading a barcode reader software application available for most mobile platforms and smartphones. Many Android, Nokia, and Blackberry phones come with QR code readers pre-installed.
Smartphones equipped with a reader application can scan the image of the QR Code and then link to and display text, video, vCards, contact information, a tweet, an email message or even to open a web page in the phone's browser.
You might see QR codes on: billboard ads, guerilla marketing campagns, in-store displays, event ticketing, trade-shows, business cards, print ads, contests, direct mail campaigns, websites, email marketing, and couponing just to name a few! The use of QR codes is free of any license. The QR code is clearly defined and published as an ISO standard.
In our market QR Codes are hot! Several Delmarva companies are using the codes in our area. Recently QR codes have become more prevalent and have been integrated into both traditional and interactive marketing campaigns.
